These portraits of flowers are unintentionally portraits of my inner state as well. Inevitably I am disappointed after I
complete each painting, especially when I compare its image to that of the living flower. I am afraid that I haven't
done justice to the beauty of nature. But after the flowers have withered, I grow to love the painting, and I realize
that it has become a new life which would not exist if not for the encounter between the flower and myself.
